You certainly can find cheaper batteries online but many times they are of very poor quality and don’t have proper certification. In most of the fires you read about they are caused by either damaged batteries or cheap batteries purchased on Amazon, Temu, Aliexpress or other. It’s very expensive and time consuming to produce a safe, quality battery and properly tested one and that does increase their price. Also, many public transportation services, condo corporations, public buildings etc are now demanding to see that a battery has official certification before allowing them on their property. In fact, when someone shows up at our shop with an Amazon special ebike or scooter to be serviced, we ask them to remove the battery and take it home. We will not store them overnight in the shop so why would you want that in your home? Batteries are starting to come down in price as production gets more efficient but for now be very skeptical of cheap batteries.
